Feminists Artists/Musicians/Poets?
Not exactly zine related but...

My name is David Smith. I'm a mid-michigan based art/music events promoter and I'm currently working with the local UndergroundRailroad Womens Shelter to put together an art music event based around the agency's mission of 1) providing safety, empowerment and change through free and confidential services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking and 2) providing leadership and programs in the community on issues of violence against women.

Basically we're looking for art/artists that reflect the feminist philosophy of the agency.
Such as artists/musicians that are survivors or at least loosely related to issues of sexual/domestic/dating violence, the impact of abuse or inequality in our society or on individuals, social justice themes, empowerment, survival, healing, etc.

If you just so happen to be (or know of) an artist/musician/poet/performance-artist in the Michigan area that would fit the bill than please get ahold of me via email.

Thank you

Know any queer rural zines? x-post (if this doesn't belong/breaks rules, sorry; tell me&I'll delete)
Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but my friend Jenna (a.k.a. trashcan_chica) needs some help:

"does anyone know of any queer zines about living in rural areas or going to rural areas?

any help/pointing in the right direction would be amazing. i went through the whole Queer Zine Archive and couldn't really find anything.

jenna b

p.s. i just got a wordpress site, sassyfrasscircus.com!"

Her (AIM) away message also says: "is looking for zines about/by members of radical queer ANTI-URBAN communities, so if you know of any..."

So please comment if you can help at all; thanks. :]

Need Writers...
I'm trying to get this started, up and running online: a zine aimed at Queer & Questioning youth, tentatively titled Q. If anyone is interested in writing for this, please send me a sample of your work (at least 600 words, not exceeding 1000 words): rubyfruit2006@yahoo.com.

You can also join the Yahoo Group to find out what kind of pieces we're looking for for the premiere issue: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/qyouthzine

Yup, I think that's all for now. I'm interested in everyone's ideas and can't wait to hear from you.

x-posted at other zine communities. ;)

SOURGRAPES: Calling all D.I.Y. kids!
Hi there,
My name is Sam. I help run a zine called SOURGRAPES ZINE. We're a local zine based in Lexington KY. We focus on teaching kids about D.I.Y. ethics, being posi, and why its important to support local art and music.
I wanted to write not only to introduce our zine to the livejournal zine world! But also to explain our predicament. You see, after a lot of pulling out hair and craziness we've decided to hire on a full-time zine team. We used to be submission based but it was pretty hard on our (then) small team.
So now we're looking for like minded zinesters and punks who support self publication, D.I.Y. ethics, posi beliefs, and who are interested in having some fun creating a great zine and keeping the underground press alive!

We're looking for:

- Columnists
- Interviewers
- Record reviewer **
- Zine reviewers **
- D.I.Y. guide writers **
- Survival guide writers **
- Bike Repair guide writers **
- Cover artists (for upcoming covers)
- Photographers
- Cartoonists (full-time strip)
- Proof readers **
- Printers
- + more!

If you think you could help us out or would like to become apart of our team, we'd love to have you! Write us at SOURGRAPESZINE@GMAIL.COM or through our myspace: http://myspace.com/sourgrapeszine
Once again we are looking for FULL TIME writers/artists (which means we will be interested in your submissions for each issue) were poor and cant pay you but we can offer free ad space, zine copies, zine reviews, and whatever Sam can knit you!

a few quetions...
what ever happened to the midwest zine fest? it was only put on one year, correct? and does anyone still read this community?

i lived in east lansing, michigan during my college years, but that was almost five years. i'm planning to road trip through some of the midwest in early spring. i was mostly thinking chicago and points north, but i still have a few good friends in michigan and don't know when i'll be back in the region after this trip, so i may go back there too.

anyway, i'm also looking for recommendations on interesting (and cheap) things to do and eat. especially minneapolis, milwaukie, and madison since i'm not at all familiar with those places...have just seen them from the bus. if there's any good resources for finding rides and couches to crash on in those areas, that would be good too. and even rides from chicago to and around michigan could be useful.

oh yeah, i live in portland, oregon these days.

Do you think your neighborhood is safe? (ziney call for entries!)
Do you think your neighborhood is safe?

We want to know what you think about where you live. Please tell us, in as many or as few words as you think are necessary, if you think your neighborhood is safe and why (or why not). We aren’t looking for any specific type of answer; we just want you to be honest.

Please send in answers by January 31, 2005. We will publish your response (As long as we can read your handwriting!) and all the others in a zine. If you include your contact information, we’ll send you a copy of the zine when it’s finished.

Send responses to: eoa@eco-absence.org, or (if you prefer analog) to Neighborhood Safety Zine, c/o Claire Nowak-Boyd and Michael Allen, 1310 N. Artesian #2R, Chicago, IL 60622, USA. If you know anyone else who’d be interested in responding to this, please let them know about it.

Thank you for your time,
Ecology of Absence

Hey there, Riles again. Is there anyone from central Ohio who will be leaving the fest on Sunday afternoon/morning and might have room for one more Columbus boy? I have a ride to the fest, but am trying to find a way home, so if anyone can hook it up, e-mail me (lionpluslamb at hotmail dot com) or post a comment here. Thanks.
5:23 pm
I'm thinking about going to the fest.

But I have no one to go with/no rides.... :\
